Accessible Parks

This map displays the locations of City of Ottawa parks listed as accessible, the dogs-in-parks designation and if there is a barbeque area.

Accessibility:

Parks marked with “Yes” in the Accessible field indicates that the park and all features within the park were constructed after January 1 2015 when requirements in the Provincial Integrated Accessibility Standards (O.Reg 191/11) took effect. These parks also meet Annex H (CAN/CSA Z614) standards and the City of Ottawa Accessibility Design Standards.


Parks marked with “no” were constructed prior to January 1, 2015 and were built to the accessibility regulations and standards in effect at the time of their construction. However, please note that some individual features (i.e. playgrounds) in these parks may meet current regulations/standards if they were redeveloped or replaced since January 1, 2015.

Dog Parks

Standard rules applying to all parks

  • Dogs must always be under the control of their handler even if leash not required.
  • Signs are posted to inform the public of whether dogs are prohibited or if they must be leashed.
  • Dogs are prohibited from being within 5 meters of all children’s play areas and pools.


The city of Ottawa developed a “Dogs-in-Parks Designation Policy” (DIPDP) which takes into consideration all people who use City parkland, establishes criteria applied city-wide which ensures access to parkland by dogs with their owners as well as freedom from dogs where parkland is not compatible with the presence of dogs.

DIPDP applies to all dedicated parkland owned or leased by the City of Ottawa. Where City grassland shares a border with a park but not part of the park the designation applies to the grassland.

Dogs-In-Parks Designation Policy

“No Dogs”

 

  • Most restrictive, prohibits dogs from parks at all times. Signage is required

“No Dogs” within 5m of Play Areas/Wading Pools/Spray Pads”

  • Applies to all City parks that allow dogs. Does not prevent persons walking leashed dogs in “Dogs Allowed” parks on paths that pass within 5 meters of play area or pool. Posted in problem parks but may be otherwise unsigned

“Dogs on Leash”

 

  • Permits dog handlers to bring only leashed dogs into park. The dogs must always be under control. Unrestricted roaming or interaction with park patrons prohibited.

“Timed”

  • Establishes designation(s) during certain times of day, days of the week, or months of the year. Parks are closed 11:00pm – 7:00 am – those times not included in any timed designation period.

 

“Mixed”

  • A number of parks support both “Stoop & Scoop” (Dogs Allowed) and “No Dogs” areas so boundaries of separate areas must be well defined by signed or natural or man-made delineations

“Stoop & Scoop” (Dogs Allowed)

  • “ Parks not signed with more restrictive designation permits dogs off leash but always under control.
