Hi, I’m Ioana Draghia, and I believe sustainable tourism starts with the community behind it.

While studying Tourism & Travel at Algonquin College, I had an excellent professor who taught Sustainable Tourism. She opened my mind to the impacts of tourism and inspired my passion to ensure that local communities and the environment benefit from tourists and travellers.

One of the greatest privileges is to explore, learn, and experience different places and cultures. Greener Routes was created to ensure that tourism and communities build a symbiotic relationship rather than an exploitative one.

My education did not stop after obtaining my diploma. I earned my travel counsellor and manager certification from Tourism Industry of Ontario (TICO), a Professional Certificate in Sustainable Tourism from the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), and am currently working through the GSTC Destination Stewardship Course. I have spent years learning how tourism can better serve communities, and I will continue this education as the industry evolves.

Greener Routes is how I put all of this into practice.

Working with local tourist attractions, event organizers and community groups in the Ottawa area who want to grow sustainably, developing intentional strategies that foster growth, support local communities and protect the natural environment.

If you’re curious about what Greener could look like for you, I would love to hear from you.
